MANILA – Alumni provide inspiration and serve as good role models for new generation of students.

This was stressed by Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Carleen Sedilla as she hailed the 10 “Most Outstanding Alumni” of the E. Rodriguez Jr High School in Quezon City during its recent 72nd Foundation Day and Grand Alumni Homecoming.

Sedilla lauded both the ERJHS, led by principal Gina Obierna, and the alumni association, headed by Jess Asistin, for maintaining a harmonious relationship.

“Alumni are always the most loyal supporters of the school. They are like ambassadors, whose skills and experience can greatly help current students,” Sedilla said.

Sedilla and Obierna presented the awards to Philippine Navy Commodore Albert Mogol of Batch 1978 (military service), Monchie’s Lechon owner-manager Ramon Ferreros of Batch 1973 (business), Tany Joe “TJ" Calalay of Batch 1995 (public service), Sct. Roberto Castor and Castor family (scouting), Connie and Precy Lorenzo (education), Jess Asistin of Batch 1976 (alumni affairs), People’s Tonight Sports editor Ed Andaya of Batch 1981 (journalism), Eric David of Batch 1972 (community service), Philippine National Police's Lt. Col. Mike Gomez of Batch 1988 (public service), and former Bureau of Fire Protection chief Gen. Enrique Linsangan (ret.) of Batch 1969 (public service).

The recognition ceremony late February happened days after ERJHS was chosen as the 10th top performing school in English during the Division Secondary Schools Press Conference held at Quirino High School in Quezon province.

Other activities included the Alumni Retro Night that featured live performances by the Righteous Act Band, headed by Jay Tuangco of Batch '87; ERJHS Alumni Sports Club 3x3 basketball tournament; Batch '76 Zumba event; and sing and dance presentation of participating batches.

ERJHS students also joined the festivities with presentations by the award-winning Kalinangan Dancers under Dante Ballesteros and Chorale Group and various field demonstrations.

The event was part of ERJHS's preparations for its Diamond Anniversary on February 2027. (PR)
