MANILA – The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will allow government and private construction projects to conduct round-the-clock road diggings beginning Wednesday until the early hours of Easter Monday.

MMDA acting chair Romando Artes said the order aims to take advantage of the expected downturn in vehicular traffic in the National Capital Region (NCR) during the Holy Week.

“Nasa 100 po na road diggings sa Metro Manila, i-a-allow po natin ‘yan 24 hours starting 11 p.m. ng Wednesday hanggang 5 a.m. ng Monday (There will be around 100 road diggings in Metro Manila, and we’re going to allow that 24 hours a day starting 11 p.m. on Wednesday until 5 a.m. on Monday),” Artes said in a press conference at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange on Monday.

The projects include those by the Department of Information and Communications Technology, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System and private contractors.

He instructed the project leads to ensure that roads are clear and vehicular traffic has normalized by 5 a.m. on April 1.

“Babantayan natin ang mga pangunahing lansangan, yung papunta po ng SLEX, NLEX, ganun din po sa mga papunta sa mga convergence points tulad ng airports, terminals, at ‘yung mga pier po natin o pantalan (We will be managing main throughfares, those headed to SLEX, NLEX, and convergence points like airports, terminals, and piers or ports),” he said.
