MANILA – A total of 49,125 police officers have been promoted to the next higher rank.

These police officers were promoted under the Calendar Year 2023 regular promotion and the 1st quarter Calendar Year 2024 continuous promotion programs, the Philippine National Police (PNP) cited a news release on Tuesday.

According to the PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM), these include 161 officers promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant Colonel; 467 to Police Major; 853 to Police Captain; 2,442 to Police Lieutenant; 4,282 to Police Executive Master Sergeant; 5,334 to Police Chief Master Sergeant; 6,116 to Police Senior Master Sergeant; 11,426 to Police Master Sergeant; 11,930 to Police Staff Sergeant; and 6,114 to Police Corporal.

Promotion ceremonies were held simultaneously nationwide on Monday afternoon in all 17 Police Regional Offices and Police Provincial Offices administered by the respective regional and provincial directors.

Meanwhile, PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. led the rites for 2,027 newly-promoted personnel based in the PNP National Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

In his address, Acorda reminded the police officers to uphold the core principles of accountability, leadership, and dedication to public service.

“With higher rank comes greater accountability and leadership expectations. Lead by example, uphold the principles of integrity and professionalism, and prioritize the safety and well-being of the communities we serve as a demonstration of your love for our country,” Acorda said.

Acorda also reiterated the PNP’s steadfast commitment to supporting the aspirations of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr and his vision for a Bagong Pilipinas.

“Let us remain mindful of the trust and confidence bestowed upon us by the Filipino people. Together, let us be agents of change, advancing the President’s agenda for reform and transformation,” he added.

The regular promotion program of the PNP ensures a streamlined rank structure for the entire 232,000-strong police force based on the approved staffing pattern by the National Police Commission.

Morale booster

In Ilocos, 2,420 promoted officers took their oaths at the Ilocos Police Regional Office (PRO-1) in San Fernando City, La Union on Monday.

Of the total, two were promoted to lieutenant colonel, 17 to major, 32 to captain and 97 to ieutenant.

Aside from higher benefits, PRO-1 said the promotion “boosted the morale of the personnel, enabling them to strive more for excellence in their service as well as inspire others to do the same.”

“Ipagpatuloy ninyo ang ating mga magagandang programa at initiatives dahil ang pundasyon ng epektibong pagpapatupad ng batas ay ang tiwala at kumpyansa sa atin ng mamamayan (Continue our programs and initiatives because the foundation of good law enforcement is the trust and confidence of the people),” PRO-1 Director Brig. Gen. Lou Frias Evangelista said in a statement on Tuesday.

Another reshuffle

Four officials, meanwhile, have been included in the latest revamp in the police force.

The order released Tuesday reassigned Directorate for Information and Communications Technology Management (DICTM) chief Maj. Gen. Neil Alinsañgan as the new director of the Civil Security Group.

Alinsañgan replaced Maj. Gen. Benjamin Silo, who was assigned to the Area Police Command-Eastern Mindanao.

Meanwhile, Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR) chief Brig. Gen. Alan Nobleza was named new DICTM chief.

Brig. Gen. Prexy Tanggawohn, director of the PNP Communications and Electronics Service, was designated new PRO-BAR director.

Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Christopher Abrahano from the Office of the Chief PNP was reassigned to the PNP Aviation Security Group.

The order came a day ahead of Acorda’s retirement from the police force and turnover of command rites for the next PNP chief on Wednesday.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has yet to name Acorda’s replacement. (With a report from Hilda Austria /PNA)
