TACLOBAN CITY – Anti-drug operatives in Eastern Visayas seized at least PHP133.88 million worth of illegal drugs from March 1 to 31, the Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office here said on Tuesday.

PNP Eastern Visayas regional director Brig. Gen. Reynaldo Pawid said operatives seized 21.3 kilograms of illegal drugs during 45 operations, which also resulted in the arrest of 54 suspects and filing of 96 cases.

The 21 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated value of PHP111.85 million, was recovered in Arteche, Eastern Samar, on March 8. A fisherman from Arteche found 20 bricks of cocaine wrapped in plastic which were floating in the coastal waters.

Police recovered the shabu during their operations in Tacloban, Albuera, Baybay, Bato, and Pastrana in Leyte province; Calbayog City in Samar; and Maydolong in Eastern Samar.

“We assure the public that the men and women of this police regional office are doing their best in our fight against criminality, especially illegal drugs,” Pawid said.

He urged the public to help report any illegal activities in the community in support of the ongoing efforts of the government to combat all forms of criminality. (PNA)
