MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is set to conduct another hardware check with information technology (IT) experts to strengthen its cybersecurity measures after the second hacking of its Facebook page within the year.
In a statement on Tuesday, PCG spokesperson Rear Adm. Armando Balilo said full access to the PCG’s official Facebook page has been restored and is back in the control of the PCG Public Affairs Service (CGPAS).
“The CGPAS coordinated with the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) under the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Meta to conduct backend operations and assess the security breach,” Balilo said.
The PCG has not identified any person or group responsible for the hacking incident.
The CGPAS has partnered with the PCG Weapons, Communications, Electronics, and Information System Command (CGWCEISC) to enhance its cybersecurity measures.
The PCG’s Facebook page was hacked on March 29, with the hackers posting video clips of movies and TV shows.
On Feb. 27, the PCG’s Facebook page was hacked in a similar manner, with the cybercriminals also posting clips of scenes from movies or TV shows. It was successfully recovered two days later. (PNA)
