MANILA – Local carriers have canceled flights between Manila and Tacloban due to emergency runway repairs at the Tacloban airport on Wednesday.

In an advisory, Cebu Pacific (CEB) said it has canceled the following flights:

CEB said affected passengers could rebook for free and without fare difference for travel up to 30 days from the original flight schedule. They could also refund the ticket, or store the amount in a virtual CEB wallet.

AirAsia Philippines, on the other hand, said none of their Tacloban flights was canceled but were delayed.

The low-cost carrier said its flight Z2 323 from Tacloban was found with asphalt debris on its elevator surface.

Due to this, flight engineers performed non-scheduled maintenance, delaying the following flights for 2 hours and 15 minutes:
Z2 354 Manila- Tagbilaran
Z2 355 Tagbilaran- Manila
Z2 697 Manila- Cagayan
Z2 698 Cagayan-Manila

AirAsia said the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has advised that the clearing of foreign object debris and repair of the runway will last until 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, there is no word yet from Philippine Airlines as of this writing. (PNA)
