SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – Four local government units (LGUs) have suspended in-person classes and ordered the shifting to alternative delivery mode (ADM) or modular distance learning due to extreme heat caused by the El Niño phenomenon.

Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train said in an interview Wednesday that Hamtic, Belison, Tobias Fornier, and San Remigio LGUs have issued their respective executive orders.

“The mayors of the four towns have already issued their respective executive orders suspending face-to-face classes on April 3-5,” Train said.

Hamtic Municipal Mayor Julius Ronald Pacificador issued on Wednesday Executive Order 18 suspending face-to-face classes at all levels of education in both public and private schools while, at the same time, directing them to utilize the ADM to ensure that actual learning is not disrupted and guaranteeing the continuity in education.

Also, Belison Mayor Christopher Piccio in EO 006 said it is the primary responsibility of the LGU to ensure the safety and well-being of its constituents, particularly the students and educators.

“In the light of the prevailing extreme heat conditions, it is imperative to take proactive measures to safeguard the health and welfare of the community,” Piccio explained the suspension of in-person classes in his EO.

San Remigio Mayor Margarito Mission, Jr., ordered the suspension of the face-to-face classes through EO 54.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Superintendent Nicasio Frio said that based on their DepEd Order 37, the implementation of modular distance learning is being reiterated in consideration of the well-being of the learners affected by extreme climate.
