TEHRAN – A World Food Programme (WFP) official has sounded the alarm on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, warning that people in the besieged Palestinian territory are on the brink of famine and children there are dying of hunger.
.
"As we speak, a large number of children in Gaza are starving to death,” WFP executive director Cindy McCain said in an interview with CNN.

In response to the question whether the Zionist regime's agreement to open a new crossing for the entry of humanitarian aid, McCain said that although this action is important it does not suffice the amount of aid needed in Gaza.

She said children in Gaza are currently dying of hunger and those that are not dying or haven't died yet are so emaciated.

A huge amount of humanitarian aid is waiting to enter Gaza just a few kilometers away, and that is why crossings for aid to enter Gaza are so important, McCain said.

McCain said that if these food items and aid do not reach the people of Gaza in time, many of them will die.

She noted that even if these aid reach the people they will experience the negative effects of malnutrition throughout their lives.

According to the United Nations Children's Fund, more than 13,000 children have been killed since the beginning of the Zionist regime's genocidal war at the Gaza Strip.

To date, one out of every three Palestinian children under the age of two years is malnourished due to severe famine, it added. (IRNA)
