DAVAO CITY – The Task Force Davao (TFD) confiscated about 6,000 reams of smuggled cigarettes amounting to PHP3 million during the first quarter of 2024, an official said Tuesday.

Col. Darren Comia, commander of TFD, said all the smuggled cigarettes were intercepted at the city's Sirawan checkpoint during the period.

"Other items that we confiscated, including the smuggled cigarettes, were caught in the checkpoint in Sirawan, and we already turned over the seized items to the Philippine National Police (PNP) for legal action," he said in an interview.

Comia also assured the public that the task force would further strengthen its checkpoint operations, noting that there are no threats to the city.

"Majority of our apprehensions are from outside the city," he said, as he urged Dabawenyos and visitors alike to comply with the city's safety and security protocols.

"The public is encouraged to practice the culture of security being implemented in Davao and to cooperate with the security forces to maintain peace and order." (PNA)
