Lady Blazers roll to fourth win in NCAA volleyball

MANILA – Defending champion College of Saint Benilde pulled off a 25-13, 23-25, 25-13, 25-14 victory over San Sebastian College to regain the lead in the NCAA Season 99 women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil EcoOil Arena in San Juan on Wednesday.

Wielyn Estoque delivered 11 attacks, while skipper Jessa Dorog and Michelle Gamit added 10 points each as the Lady Blazers remained unbeaten after four outings.

CSB also extended its winning run to 33 after sweeping the last two seasons.

Jade Gentapa had nine attacks, followed by Zamantha Nolasco with eight points, while Cristy Odangan and Gayle Pascual contributed six points apiece. Cloanne Mondonedo also had six points, including four aces, to go with 19 excellent sets.

Katherine Santos finished with 17 points for the Lady Stags, who absorbed their fourth consecutive loss.

Team captain Kamille Josephine Amaka had 11 attacks and one ace, while Juna May Gonzales and Zenith Joy Deposoy added six and four points, respectively.

In the men's division, San Sebastian outplayed CSB, 12-25, 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 15-8, to improve its record to 3-1.

Kyle Angelo Villamor led the Stags with 28 points, 26 on attacks, to go with 17 excellent receptions.

Joshua Espenida scored 17 points, including four blocks, and had eight digs, while Rhenmart Christian Alba made 13 points, 13 on attacks, and Reniel Suga had 11 points, four on blocks. Ace Buenaventura produced 25 excellent receptions and 15 digs.

The Blazers (1-3) were paced by James Harold Marasigan and Arnel Christian Aguilar, who both scored 20 points each. (PNA)
