CEBU CITY – Over 8,000 vacancies here and abroad were opened Friday for job seekers at the 10th Kadaugan sa Mactan (Victory of Mactan) fair in Lapu-Lapu City.

Mayor Junard Chan said 28 local and multi-national companies joined the job fair at The Outlet in Pueblo Verde, Barangay Basak in the historical island city.

“I would be happy if many of our applicants could land a job. If many will get a job, no one will ask me for a job,” Chan said.

The mayor acknowledged the separate and special lanes for the displaced workers who have joined the job-hunting at the fair.

He recounted that more than 7,000 workers in Mactan export processing zones lost their jobs since 2023.

Meanwhile, Kim Francisco, head of the Lapu-Lapu City Public Employment Service Office, said just an hour after the job fair opened, 13 applicants were hired on the spot.

Job applicants no longer need to visit other government agencies to secure necessary documents needed for their application such as police clearance.

The Philippine National Police has set up its booth for applicants who need the clearance.

The Social Security System booth was also present for those who wish to apply for membership or update their account. (PNA)
