CEBU CITY – Around 8,500 modern and traditional jeepneys have already consolidated under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program.

Eduardo Montealto Jr., regional director of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)-Central Visayas, said these units are ready to serve the region's riding public should there be no more extension for the consolidation of the remaining traditional jeepneys.

"MPUJ fleets are ready and sufficient to serve all routes. Also, this will be complemented with the TPUJs who are consolidated because they can still ply their routes and have the ample time to modernize given to them," Montealto told the Philippine News Agency.

He said the agency is still open until the weekend to accommodate those who want to catch up with the national government's transport modernization effort.

"This is an opportunity given to so that altogether we can serve the riding public and improve the lives of the transport sector," he said.

"Furthermore, our office is open this last weekend," he added.
Montealto said Central Visayas consolidation rate has so far reached 89 percent.

As of Thursday, the LTFRB central office has yet to announce its directives to its regional offices about the deadline for consolidation.
On April 10, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that there would be no more extension after the April 30 deadline. (PNA)
