MANILA – National University and University of Santo Tomas downed separate rivals on Friday to arrange a title showdown in the girls’ division of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) U18 Championships at Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila.

NU banked on Denesse Daylisan and team captain Harlyn Serneche to prevail over La Salle-Lipa, 25-19, 25-15, 25-23.

“This is a transition team where the older faces did not play anymore as we focused on fresh faces to be developed,” NU’s long-time coach, Norman Miguel, said. “This team is composed of grade nine athletes in high school. We’re looking forward to the final against UST.”

UST, on the other hand, pulled off a 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 victory over Kings’ Montessori School-Quezon City.

NU outclassed De La Salle-Zobel, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17, while UST clobbered Canossa Academy, 25-13, 25-15, 25-12, in the quarterfinal round last week.

UST and NU will enter the championship undefeated.

In the boys’ semifinal, VNSxSavogue downed Angatleta Sports-Bataan, 25-20, 25-19, 25-21, and will take on either Umingan or Canossa Academy in the finals.

The classification matches for fifth to eighth places in the boys’ and girls’ divisions will be held on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

The battle for bronze will be on Sunday at 10 a.m. (boys) and 12:30 p.m. (La Salle-Lipa vs. Kings’ Montessori, girls), followed by the girls’ final at 3 p.m. and the boys’ final at 5:30 p.m. (PNA)
