UST takes lead in UAAP jrs beach volleyball

MANILA – Khy Progella and Cameron Grace Villaluz of defending champion University of Santo Tomas defeated Adamson University's Shai Nitura and Fel Sagaysay, 21-14, 24-22, in the UAAP Season 86 high school girls' beach volleyball tournament at Sands SM By The Bay in Pasay City on Saturday night.

Undefeated UST rolled to its fourth victory to take the solo lead, while Adamson dropped to second at 3-1.

Far Eastern University-Diliman's Frenchie Premaylon and Love Lopez pulled off a 22-20, 21-16 win over Ateneo's Ten Quimpo and Abigail May Martija as the Baby Tamaraws gained a share of second place.

In the other match, De La Salle-Zobel's Aislinn Alemaña, Katrina Tria, and third player Angel Jaden Cenizal rallied past UP Integrated School's Khloe Long and Janella Guarino, 20-22, 21-8, 15-4, to forge a two-way tie for third with idle National University Nazareth School at 2-2.

Ateneo is fourth with a 1-4 slate while UPIS remains winless in five outings.

Meanwhile, Nazareth, UST, Adamson, and defending champion FEU-D won to create a four-way tie for the lead at 4-1 in the boys’ division.

Nazareth's John Wayne Dionela and Rain Skyler Gemarino clobbered UPIS' Juan Miguel Navarro, Japeth Ben Casabar and third player Marcus Ellis Bamba, 21-6, 21-4.

UST's John Michael Lagaran, Lance Malinao and third player Luther Mace Gutierrez outplayed UE's Jan Macam, Xyrone Montemayor, 21-10, 21-19.

Adamson's Tommy Castrodes, CJ Dominquito and third player Brandy Clemente trounced Ateneo's Mon Paquito Berdos, Santiago Andres Avila and third player Miguel Mariano Turqueza, 21-7, 21-3.

FEU-D's Kyle Tandoc, Amet Bituin and third player Zedric Dave Calimlim bested De La Salle-Zobel's Mario Roxas, Christopher Pallega and third player Jarett Lei Failana, 21-11, 21-19.

UE has a 2-3 record followed by DLSZ and Ateneo, both with 1-4 cards, and UPIS (0-5). (PNA)
