MANILA – A female corrections officer was promoted on the spot over the weekend after preventing the attempted smuggling of suspected “shabu” by a visitor into the National Bilibid Prison Medium Security Camp.

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. ordered the spot promotion of Corrections Officer 1 (CO1) Everlyn Mary Pingian to the next higher rank on Sunday due to her “numerous accomplishments.”

“She exemplifies what a true corrections officer should be because she does not just do her job, but she does it well. We hope to have more Pingian in BuCor, worthy of emulation. Siguro kung lahat ng corrections officers natin ay tulad nya, mababawasan ng malaki ang problema natin sa atin mga facilities (If all our corrections officers are like her, the problems in our facilities will be greatly reduced),” Catapang said in a statement.

According to the BuCor, Pingian was conducting a thorough strip cavity search for a certain Ms. Wilmar S. Castro when she saw the latter inserting something in her private parts.

This prompted the correction officer to instruct Castro to squat several times, resulting in the discovery of a tube containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.

Castro was turned over to the Muntinlupa City Philippine National Police while the confiscated substance was turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. (PNA)
