MANILA – Customs officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) intercepted over 2.5 kg. of kush or high-grade marijuana and 70 pieces of vape pens containing cannabis oil with an estimated value of PHP3.55 million in a warehouse in Pasay City.

In a statement Monday, Bureau of Customs (BOC)-NAIA District Collector Yasmin Mapa said the contraband was detected inside five parcels subjected to X-ray and K9 inspection at the Central Mail Exchange Center on April 26.

The parcels which came from the United States and Canada were declared as car seat covers, coffee mugs, and books.

A subsequent physical examination revealed that the shipments contained dried leaves suspected as kush and vape pens.

The collected samples were sent to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency for laboratory testing and confirmation, which confirmed the dried leaves as kush and the vape pens to have cannabis oil.

Kush and cannabis oil are considered dangerous drugs and substances as defined under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Mapa added that the consignees would face appropriate charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. (PNA)
