MANILA – The driver of the bus involved in a multiple collision along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City that killed three persons and left 17 others injured is now under police custody, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan said on Tuesday.

In a statement, Maranan said the suspect Rolly Canapi Pascua, 42, a resident of Barangay Holy Spirit in Quezon City, would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple damage to property with multiple physical injuries and multiple homicides before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

Lt. Hermogenes Portes Jr., chief of the city's Traffic Sector 5, said Pascua was driving a passenger bus traversing along Commonwealth Ave., towards Elliptical Road when his bus experienced break failure along Fairlane St. in Barangay Fairview shortly before 10 p.m. on Monday night.

The bus initially collided with two motorcycles and hit a passenger UV Express. It continued to move forward and hit four other motorcycles and a taxi.

The victims were immediately brought to the nearest medical institution for immediate treatment and medication.

Maranan said three out of the 20 victims were declared dead by their attending physicians.

The fatalities were a 45-year-old mother and her 7-year-old daughter from Camarin, Caloocan, both passengers of UV Express while the other was a 25-year-old rider from San Mateo Rizal. (PNA)
