MANILA – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) warned motorists of possible slow vehicular traffic in parts of Metro Manila during evenings from Friday to Sunday to make way for the transportation of a tunnel boring machine (TBM) for the Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP).

In an advisory on Wednesday, the DOTr said the TBM will be transported from Manila Harbour Center to the Camp Aguinaldo Station of the MMSP from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. beginning Friday night to Saturday morning and from Saturday evening to Sunday morning.

“The TBM will be used in the construction of the tunnels that shall connect MMSP’s Camp Aguinaldo and Ortigas Stations,” it said.

It said the following roads will be affected during the scheduled equipment transport:

- Port/ R-10 (between 10 to 10:30 p.m.)

- C3 Road (between 10:30 to 11:30 p.m.)

- 5th Avenue (between 11:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.)

- G. Araneta Avenue (between 12:30 to 1:30 a.m.)

- E. Rodriguez Sr. Avenue (between 1:30 to 2 a.m.)

- Gilmore Avenue (between 2 to 3 a.m.)

- Col. Bonny Serrano Avenue (between 3 to 4 a.m.)

The DOTr advised motorists to take alternate routes to avoid vehicular traffic in these areas.

“We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding,” it said.

As of March, the MMSP stands at 40 percent complete and is on track to begin partial operations by 2029.

Once completed, the subway is capable of serving up to 519,000 passengers daily and will run from Quezon City to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City and vice versa.

It will reduce the current one hour and 30-minute drive between these areas to a 35-minute subway ride. (PNA)
