LEGAZPI CITY – Albayanos can expect more reliable power supply in the coming years from the Albay Electric Cooperative Inc. (Aleco) after the allotment of PHP500 million for the construction of two substations and rehabilitation of existing distribution facilities in the province.
Ako Bicol (AKB) Party-List Rep. Elizaldy Co and executive director Alfredo Garbin said the funds are already with the National Electrification Administration (NEA), to be downloaded to Aleco upon submission of documentary requirements.
"A reliable and high-quality power supply will result in fewer business disruptions, increased productivity, and the potential to attract new businesses, fostering job creation and economic growth," Garbin, also the House Committee on Appropriations chair, said.
Constructing two new substations will improve the electrical grid's ability to manage and distribute electricity, reducing overloads and power outages, he said.
"The added substations will allow for alternative electricity pathways, ensuring quick rerouting in case of failure and enhancing consumer confidence in power supply stability," Garbin added.
In an interview, Nelia Anyera, 59, of Barangay Homapon, Legazpi City, hopes for better electric supply in the province.
"I hope that project goes well. It's hard, especially as I'm getting older. It's so hot, I'm afraid of heat stroke, especially at night when the electricity suddenly goes out," she said in the vernacular.
Anyare said the plan would also mean stable electric supply for her small grocery store. (PNA)
