MANILA – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Saturday condemned the killing of one of its officials in an ambush in Quezon City on Friday night.

“The entire Land Transportation Office (LTO) family condemns in the strongest terms the killing of one of our own, Mercedita Gutierrez, in a gun attack in Quezon City on Friday, May 24,” read the statement of LTO chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II.

Gutierrez was the chief of the Registration Section of the LTO Central Office in Quezon City.

She was gunned down in Barangay Pinyahan around 6:20 p.m. by a motorcycle-riding assailant, according to the police report.

“This is a cowardly act and we assure her family and the public of our untiring efforts to coordinate with the Philippine National Police and closely monitor the investigation of this incident to bring all perpetrators of this crime behind bars,” Mendoza said.

“On behalf of the men and women of the LTO, I extend my sincerest condolences to her loved ones, and likewise join them in seeking justice for this dastardly act.”

The LTO declined to make further comments regarding the investigation and as to the possible motive behind the killing. (PND/PNA)
