PLDT provider of fastest internet service in PH

In today’s digital age, access to a reliable and fast internet service has become a necessity. With the increasing reliance on technology, high-speed internet service is now considered an essential tool in nation-building as it can drive economic growth, promote education by enabling knowledge-sharing, improve existing systems, and enhance healthcare services to name a few. Therefore, countries that invest in digitalization and digital infrastructure have a competitive advantage in today’s global economy.

Cognizant of this irrefutable fact, PLDT, Inc. (PLDT), the country’s largest and leading digital service provider, is constantly improving its products and services and expanding its reach to ensure that their customers receive top-notch service.

As a result of the company’s efforts, PLDT was recognized by Ookla Speedtest Awards 2022 as the company with the fastest internet service in the Philippines for the fifth consecutive year. The company bagged the recognition by recording the top internet speed with the score of 86.52, making history as the first company to achieve a five-peat win in the country. This recognition demonstrates PLDT’s commitment to providing their customers with a reliable and fast internet service.

The PLDT Group has always been one with the country in its efforts to promote economic recovery and growth through digitalization. The group is striving to deliver internet and other digital services to more parts of the country. To date, it has so far recorded 6.08 million fiber-powered ports in 17,700 barangays in the country.

According to PLDT president and chief executive officer Alfredo S. Panlilio, “PLDT’s commitment is to help build and empower the nation by setting the bar high in providing world-class digital services for Filipinos. For the past five years, PLDT has made big strides to elevate our customers’ experience by delivering the best fixed network services. We intend to keep this momentum and to go above and beyond in ensuring that our customers get the best digital experience wherever they need it – at home, school, or the office.”

As of 2021, PLDT is still the sole telecommunications company in the country capable of providing fiber-optic speeds of up to 10 Gbps, which is considered the fastest available to the public. This remarkable achievement has put the Philippines on par with advanced nations in terms of ultra-fast internet speeds, such as South Korea, Japan, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the United States.

Besides providing fast internet service, one of the things that the PLDT Group is currently focusing on is its support for the government’s implementation of the SIM Card Registration Act or Republic Act 11934. It can be recalled that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (PBBM) recently approved the extension of the deadline of SIM card registration.

PLDT Group’s wireless unit, Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart), has committed to further intensifying its efforts and campaign on sim card registration. Since the law’s implementation on Dec. 27, 2022, Smart has been actively disseminating information regarding this. It has utilized various platforms such as TV, radio, print, billboards, text messages and on-ground activities, among others.

This law states that citizens will be given 180 days from the date of its implementation to comply by registering their SIM cards. The law also allows a maximum of 120 days for extension, should it be necessary. Hence, Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy reminded telecommunications companies and citizens that this is the final deadline as permitted by the law.

Smart and other similar companies have been encouraging their subscribers to comply with the SIM Card Registration Act. From the get-go, PBBM has been emphasizing the importance of unity. In this matter, the cooperation of citizens with the government and members of the telecommunications industry is crucial.

PLDT Group's commitment to providing cutting-edge fiber-optic technology and supporting the government's efforts towards digitalization has undoubtedly helped elevate the country's status. With its continuous efforts to improve its already industry-leading services and support government initiatives such as the Sim Card Registration Act, the company has cemented its commitment to building a more connected and technologically advanced nation.
