BSP honors Western Visayas, NIR stakeholders

BSP  awards 15 stakeholders from Western Visayas and Negros Island Region (NIR) during an awards ceremony and appreciation lunch held in Iloilo City, Aug 8, 2017.

 

ILOILO CITY, Aug 8 -- Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Tuesday recognized 13 stakeholders from Western Visayas and Negros Island Regions (NIR) that served as its partners in carrying out its mandate. 

“The award maybe significant to you but it is equally significant for us because we now have strong partners in our advocacy. It carries the message of appreciation and gratitude from the governor, from the monetary board,” said Monetary Board Member Juan D. De Zuñiga Jr.

In his keynote address, Zuñiga underscored that the “evolving partnership is a result of a relationship that flourished through the years of cooperation.” 

He also pointed out that BSP is on its “new season of excellence leveraging on legacy built by former governor Amando Tetangco.”

“The spirit of transition is anchored on the cleared vision of BSPs mandate of price stability, supervision of financial system that supports a conducive environment for growth for the Philippine economy,” he cited.

Meanwhile, BSP Cebu regional office director Leonides B. Sumbi, in welcoming participants and awardees, also underscored the role of stakeholders in the fulfillment of their objectives and the realization of vision

“Your inputs have made it possible for us to formulate data-driven and responsive policies that would ensure that economic growth remains strong and resilient, underpinned by a low and stable inflation, a strong and stable banking system and safe and reliable payment system,” she said.

Two of the 13 awardees received the 14-inch ‘Soaring to Greater Heights’ brass trophy for the Gold Hall of Fame Award while the rest were awarded a "Dynamic Balance Philippine Eagle" trophy. The trophies were designed by Filipino visual artist Ferdinand Cacnio.

The Gold Hall of Fame Awardees were the Calinog National Comprehensive High School and the Junior Philippine Economic Society of the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod for winning as Outstanding Partners for Currency Program (coin recirculation) for three straight years.

Cited as outstanding respondents for the Business Expectations Survey were the KJ Fairmart Inc and Navstar Gasoline Station (Total), both from Bacolod City,  for medium and large firms and small firms, respectively.

Philippine Statistics Authority- Capiz was awarded Outstanding Partner for Report on the Regional Economic Developments.

For currency programs, Iloilo Supermart Inc. won the award for clean note policy; Calinog National Comprehensive High School – Iloilo and Junior Philippine Economic Society of the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod (coin recirculation);  SM City-Iloilo, Philippine Chamber of Commerce Inc./ DTI Negosyo Center- Kalibo, Aklan and ABS-CBN Bacolod’s “Salandigan” program (demonetization of the new design series).

Moreover, the West Visayas State University College of Business and Management, La Consolacion College (LCC) – Bacolod and the Capiz State University were awarded as Outstanding Partners for Implementing BSP Advocacy on the conduct of public information campaigns.

The Department of Education (DepEd) was awarded outstanding partner for child financial education. (PNA)
