BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan --The Philippine Red Cross chapter here is targeting at least 1,500 runners for this year’s "Million Volunteer Run"  (MVR) to help finance the initial operation of its blood station and blood collection facility.

Now on its fourth year, the MVR is slated on October 21.

The MVR aims to gather at least one million people to run for a cause as well as to create a culture of volunteerism in the country. It will be simultaneously held in different areas in the country.

“Our target for this year is to gather at least 1,500 or even more runners," Rona Liza Inocencio, PRC-Boracay Malay chapter administrator said Monday.

She said the proceeds for this year’s MVR will be used to finance the first three months of operation of the blood collection and blood station facility here.

The construction and the operation of both facilities were financed by the Red Cross.

The equipment was donated by the  Rotary Clubs of Boracay and  of Jindo, South Korea.

By having a blood station and blood collection facility, Inocencio said it will ensure enough supply of blood for locals and tourists in need on the island.

Inocencio said registration for the humanitarian run is open to everyone and is encouraging locals and different establishments on the island to join the event.

The Boracay MVR run will be held along the four-kilometer White Beach of Boracay. (PNA)
