Porras to fight Indon boxer for vacant WBC Asia title

DAVAO CITY -- Former interim WBO Asia Pacific Youth Glenn “The Rock” Porras of the Philippines will be fighting ex-world title challenger Noldi Manakane of Indonesia for the vacant WBC Asia Boxing Council super bantamweight title on November 25 at at the UM Gym in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

The 10-round title fight is one of the four championships slated in “The Redemption” boxing promotion of MB Northstar Boxing Promotions and the RATIM Sports Promotion.

It will be held in coordination with the Tagum Circue of Shooters Inc. and Maco Golden Valley Eagles Club.

Porras of the Panabo City-based MB Northstar Boxing Stable previously captured the vacant Mindanao Professional Boxing Federation (MinProBA) super bantamweight title by stopping Dingdong Quinones in the first round only last September 15 at the Panabo City Gym.

Porras (30W-6L-0D, 18 KOs) is a former interim WBO Asia Pacific Youth and Philippine bantamweight champion.

“Himuon nako ang tanan para maka daug ko sa Indonesian (I will do everything to win over the Indonesian),” said the 32-year-old Porras, a native of M’lang, North Cotabato.

Porras’ manager Jilson Basang, however, said Porras should not take his Indonesian opponent lightly.

“Matibay at beterano din yun kalaban ni Porras (The opponent of Porras is strong and veteran),” said Basang.

Manakane recorded 56 fights with 32 wins and 18 knockouts. He is a former PABA bantamweight, Indonesia Boxing Association (IBA) featherweight, super bantamweight and super flyweight champion.

A former world title contender, Manakane was able to challenge WBA World bantamweight champion Koki Kameda of Japan on April 4, 2012 in Yokohama. Manakane, however, lost by a unanimous decision.

He also fought but lost for the WBC Asia Pacific super flyweight title via a 6th round knockout against Thailand’s Suriya Tatakhun in Nonthaburi in 2014. (Lito delos Reyes/PNA)
