1,000 cops join advocacy walk vs illegal drugs

TUGUEGARAO CITY -- Some 1,063 personnel of the Police Regional Office (PRO) In Region 2 joined the nationwide "LAKAD (Lipunin at Kalampagin and Droga) Tokhang 2" on Saturday at the Camp Marcelo A. Aduuru grandstand here, in support of the government's campaign against illegal drugs.

PRO2 -2 regional director, Chief Supt. Jose Mario M. Espino, said one of the regional police office’s goals here is to stop the growing illegal drug trade in the Cagayan Valley region where he ordered policemen to wage an all-out war against illegal drugs.

The LAKAD Tokhang was simultaneously conducted in other Police Regional and Provincial Offices in the country.

In Manila, about 5,000 people composed of non-governmental organizations, security forces and stakeholders gathered along EDSA to help educate the public on the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign.

“Elimination of drug trade in the region is one of my ambitious intentions and I want to push my men hard inorder to produce results. Maybe they need a little push to make a difference so that our constituents can live peacefully,” Espino said in an interview on Saturday.

Espino said they will tap barangay officials in forging a united stand and creating a strategy to help neutralize drug pushers in the region.

At present, he said, validation and updating of suspected drug pushers list who were included in their Order of Battle (OB) are being done in a bid to address the problem illegal drugs here.

“We should arrest the pushers and and we save the users. We should neutralize them all in order for our constituents to have a better place to live in,” Espino added. (PNA)
