CAMP DANGWA, Benguet -- Government troops destroyed fully-grown marijuana plants worth PHP17.4 million in Barangay Buscalan and Loccong in Tinglayan, Kalinga province over the weekend.
Chief Supt. Edward Carranza, Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCOR) Director, said on Monday it was done during a three-day marijuana eradication operation called “Oplan Five Fingers Saga” from April 27 to 29.
Carranza said joint operatives from the Kalinga Provincial Police Office (PPO), Regional Maneuver Force Battalion (RMFB), and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Cordillera uprooted and burned the marijuana plants from 15 plantations.
He said the marijuana plants were burned on site, while only samples were brought to Tinglayan Municipal Police Station for evidence.
Although no one was arrested during the operation, Carranza said the police is now in the process of identifying the cultivators of the marijuana plants for the filing of appropriate criminal charges.
“We will not stop until the last marijuana cultivator, the last financier, and the last pusher surrender, or are arrested and put behind bars,” Carranza said.
The operation was in line with President Duterte's unwavering campaign against illegal drugs. (PNA)
