Robbery suspect killed in shootout with Cavite cops

Imus City, CAVITE -- A robbery-holdup suspect was killed in a firefight with lawmen during a follow-up operation Saturday morning at the Rodeo Hills Subdivision in Barangay Buck Estate in Alfonso, Cavite.

Cavite provincial police director Senior Supt. William Segun reported Sunday that the still unidentified slain suspect was allegedly one of four suspects in the robbery incident in Barangay Amuyong in Alfonso on May 16.

Segun said the suspect resisted arrest and fired at the police officers who in turn retaliated and a shootout ensued resulting to the suspect’s death.

He said that prior to the incident, barangay chairman Andy Añonuevo has reported to the Alfonso police early Saturday dawn that a suspicious male was roaming around the village while inquiring for some directions from the locals.

The Alfonso cops responded and validated the report as they were also conducting their continuous follow-up and manhunt operation over a robbery-hold-up incident on May 16 where four male suspects robbed at gunpoint the hotel guests of the Olive Tree Villa at the Secret Garden in Barangay Amuyong in Alfonso.

Segun said that police operatives and patrol officers led by Alfonso acting chief of police, Chief Inspector Rheden M. Manalo, who happened to be near the area around 3 a.m. on Saturday, chanced upon the suspect.

As the police personnel were about to apprehend the suspect, the latter resisted and shot at the arresting police officers prompting lawmen to shoot back, killing the suspected robber.

Scene of the crime operatives led by Chief Insp. Amer C. Magsumbol with PO2 Annie Rose A. Laguerta and PO2 Jason P Morauda processed the crime scene.

They recovered a caliber 38 revolver with SN 80752 used by the suspect; two live cal. 38 ammunitions; a cal. 38 empty shell; a slug from caliber 38 revolver; and eight fired cartridge of unknown caliber of firearms.

The suspect’s remains were brought to the Acosta Funeral Homes for autopsy. (Dennis Abrina Jr./PNA)
