LPA off Mindanao now ‘Domeng’

MANILA -- The low-pressure area spotted east of Mindanao has developed into tropical depression "Domeng", the state weather bureau said Tuesday.

In its latest weather bulletin issued 11 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said “Domeng” was last spotted 675 km. east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of up to 45 km. per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 60 km. per hour.

“Domeng” is forecast to move north-northwest at a speed of 14 km. per hour.

While the tropical depression is not expected to hit land, PAGASA said it will bring moderate to occasional heavy rains and thunderstorms over the Eastern and Central Visayas, Caraga and Davao regions.

Areas within 300 km. of the tropical depression will experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

“Domeng” is expected to be at 745 km. east of Catarman, Northern Samar on Wednesday and at 630 km. east of Casiguran, Aurora on Thursday.

It is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday.

Meanwhile, another low-pressure area was spotted 1,193 km. east of Luzon. (PNA)
