5 Antique towns suspend classes due to heavy rain

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique -- Classes in five towns of the province of Antique were suspended Monday due to heavy rainfall brought about by the southwest monsoon. 

Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train said. in an interview Monday, that classes were suspended early this morning in the towns of Belison, San Jose de Buenavista, Patnongon, San Remigio and Sibalom from elementary to high school levels. 

“The University of Antique and St. Anthony’s College also suspended their classes even up to college level,” Train said.

Also, the Sta. Rita Academy, which is an Assumption School in Sibalom, and Wright Technological College of Antique, with campuses in Sibalom and San Jose de Buenavista, suspended their classes. 

Train said there was heavy rainfall experienced from Sunday night to Monday morning. 

The PDRRMO continues to monitor the situation although the rain already stopped noontime of Monday. 

So far, the PDRRMO has not received reports of any untoward incident like flooding or landslide in the province.  (PNA)
