LAOAG CITY—To promote a safe environment for student boarders and young professionals, Board Member Matthew Joseph Manotoc and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)  reminded owners of dormitories, apartments and boarding houses in Ilocos Norte to adhere to the provisions of the Fire Code of the Philippines.

“We need to ensure that they are well-equipped with facilities which is safe and conducive for learning,” Manotoc said Tuesday.

In time for the opening of classes, the BFP in cooperation with other concerned government authorities conducted a random monitoring on the conditions of dormitories, apartments and boarding houses in the province.

Some of the considerations looked into were health and drinking facilities, canteens, comfort rooms, bed capacity, and lodging fees.

Also checked were the establishments’ compliance with building regulations and ordinances, fire protection measures, and business permits. (PNA)
