DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur -- Special Assistant to the President (SAP) Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go led the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the PHP170-million new city hall here on Thursday.

The event coincided with the 69th Araw ng Digos celebration.

Go said the multi-million project was an offshoot of a request from Mayor Joseph Penas last year to President Rodrigo Duterte to build a new and modern city hall building.

Constructed sometime in 1952, the dilapidated city hall building will be replaced after 66 years.

Go said the President, who spent seven years of his younger school days in Digos, immediately instructed him to facilitate Penas’ request.

Go was accompanied by celebrity actor Philip Salvador during the event, spending almost two hours in rendering his inspirational message, to the delight and laughter of the Digosenos. (Anthony S. Allada/PNA)
