MANILA -- Close to 4,000 cops have passed the selection process of the Lateral Program Entry for Line Officers, which is part of the preventive component of the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) internal cleansing program.

Based on the final results released by the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) on Monday, a total of 3,822 police non-commissioned officers passed the Written Competitive Examination (WCE).

“Our rigid selection process on the Lateral Program Entry will be part of our preventive component of PNP's internal cleansing program. We would like to impose added built-in safeguards to ensure transparency and integrity of administrative processes and to eliminate possible opportunities for irregular practices of undue influence, favoritism, fraud and corruption,” PNP Chief, Director General Oscar Albayalde, said in a statement.

The successful applicants for the lateral program will take their oath as PNP Line Officers, to be administered by Albayalde on March 4, 2019.

Among the top examinees were SPO3 Jeremy M. Tagle of the Binangonan Police in Rizal province, who garnered 109 points; SPO3 Jennice M. Jumalon of the Surigao del Norte Police in the Caraga region, with 107 points; and PO3 Cris Cristian T. Patayon of the Panaon Municipal Police, Misamis Occidental province, in the Northern Mindanao region, who had 106 points.

The DPRM said the passing rate was set at 53.09 percent out of 7,199 examinees in five testing centers nationwide. Of the total number of passers, 565, or 14.78 percent, are female police officers who are on active duty.

Based on data from the Recruitment and Selection Division of the DPRM, 7,199 police officer candidates took the 2018 WCE in five examination centers in Angeles City, Lucena City, Cebu City, Davao City, and Taguig City last Sept. 23.

The PNP Lateral Entry Board and Health Service will start processing the month-long Psychiatric Psychological Examination (PPE) for the successful candidates who passed the WCE for Calendar Year (CY) 2018 Lateral Entry Program for Line Officers.

The PNP Health Service is now bracing for the second phase of the CY 2018 Lateral Entry Program, which will be held on Oct. 20 to Nov. 20.

The PNP Health Service will release the list of testing centers for the neuro-psychiatric examination before October 20.

Albayalde said the National Police Commission approved the openings for the CY 2018 Lateral Entry Program to fill up 4,014 vacancies for Line Officers and Criminologists, who will be commissioned into the PNP Officer Corps. (PNA)
