CITY OF MALOLOS, Bulacan -- The provincial government of Bulacan, in collaboration with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), provided livelihood assistance in the form of "pangkabuhayan" starter kits to some 720 indigent Bulakenyos on Monday.

The assistance, which was distributed to the beneficiaries at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium, included 400 grocery kits, 100 "negokarts", 100 ovens for bread and pastry trainees of Provincial Livelihood Training Center (PLTC), 70 candle- and soap-making kits and 50 food processing kits.

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos, who graced  the event, lauded the livelihood project which, she said, provides more opportunities for Bulakenyos to engage entrepreneurship.

She likewise admired the presence of small businesses in the province under the leadership of creative men and women.

“I am very pleased to be with the women who are hardworking and creative businessmen of Bulacan. They say, the best business people here in Bulacan are female -- wife, child, mother, grandmother, leader, barangay health worker,  volunteer, businesswoman, friend, and more,” Marcos said.

Meanwhile, Acting Governor Daniel R. Fernando said the project is not only beneficial to the poor families but also for the good of the communities and the country as a whole.

“Just like the saying, 'give a man a fish and he can eat a day, but, teach him fishing and he will not be hungry for a lifetime.' So, our provincial government appreciates your endeavor and desire to have enough income to finance your needs rather than relying solely on the help of other people,” Fernando said.

He also said the beneficiaries would be closely monitored to ensure that their livelihood projects would be sustained. (PNA)
