SPD designates firecracker zones for New Year revelries

MANILA -- The Southern Police District (SPD) has designated 52 community firecracker zones and five community fireworks display areas in the areas under its jurisdiction for New Year's Day celebrations.

The SPD covers the cities of Pasay, Makati, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Taguig, as well as the municipality of Pateros.

SPD Director Chief Supt. Eliseo Cruz said the designated firecracker zones aims to reduce fire incidents caused by fireworks and firecrackers.

Cruz said the designated firecracker zones are in compliance to President Rodrigo Duterte's Executive Order No. 28, which bans private citizens from putting up their own fireworks displays or use firecrackers in their residences. This meant they could only light their firecrackers or watch firecrackers display in designated areas.

He said the designated areas are identified by the police, in coordination with the respective barangays and local government units.

Police assistance desks will be established in these areas and will be manned by PNP personnel, who will be augmented by SPD force multipliers.

In Pasay City, the designated areas are the following: F. Fernando St., Zone 7; BAC -1-11, Zone 20, Don Carlos Revilla Village; Apelo Cruz St., in front of T. PAEZ Elem School, Malibay; in front of KIA Motors, Aurora Blvd., Maricaban; Connie Dy Multi-Purpose Court, Sunvalley and Brgy. 98 Basketball Court, Airline Rd.; in front of Brgy. 201 Hall. Kalayaan Village beside BFP Station; and in front of Brgy. 183, Villamor.

In Parañaque City, the designated areas are the following: Aling Quirino Ave., La Huerta; P. Dan Dan Public Market, La Huerta; 7-11, La Huerta; M. Rodriguez open area going to Bulungan and in front of BJMP, La Huerta; M. H. del Pilar going to Tramo, La Huerta; San Nicolas, La Huerta; Main Park, E. Factor Rd., Don Galo; Baltao Plaza Court, Vitalez; Fatima basketball court, Valley 1, San Antonio; Area 4 Open Court, 4th Estate, San Antonio; United States, Don Bosco; Dona Soledad Ave., besides Domino’s Pizza and Russia St.; Brgy. Don Bosco Hall; basketball court, Sto. Niño; Wawa basketball covered court, Sto. Nino; San Agustin covered court, Brgy. Moonwalk; Phimra Phase 1, near Holy Eucharist Church; Multinational covered court; PSPQ covered court, Moonwalk; Airport Village covered court, Moonwalk; Bricktown covered court, Moonwalk; Romvi covered court, Moonwalk; Phimra covered court, Moonwalk; Dilain Bicol Purok 7, Moonwalk; San Agustin covered court, Moonwalk; Scarlet Golezeum, Moonwalk; Airport Golezeum, Moonwalk; Eugenio Park Phase 1, Brgy. Marcelo Green; Severina 18, Marcelo Green; and UPS 4 Central, Marcelo Green.

In Taguig City, the following are the designated areas: Calzada in front of Brgy. Hall; Purok 1, Dingguin Bayan open court, Palingon; Plaza Bonifacio, open space parking near Brgy. Hall, Ligid Tipas; Bagong Calzada in front of cemetery, Tuktukan; Bambang - vacant lot near Brgy. Hall; Wawa vacant lot near Brgy. Hall; San Miguel open space near Brgy. Health Center/Bay breeze; Lakeshore Hall Parking, Lower Bicutan; Paso park/ back of Cayetano Complex, Bagumbayan; Hagonoy complex; C6 Highway, Lower Bicutan; baseball stadium, Ususan; South Daang Hari, PNR Rails /SDH Bagumbayan; Katuparan open space of Minetal Recovery Funds (MRF); and Fort Bonifacio High Street.

The following areas are also designated for five fireworks display zones in the cities of Pasay, Parañaque and Taguig: MOA Complex PCP-SM by the Bay Moa Complex; Resorts World-Andrews Ave., Brgy. 183, Villamor; Tambo-Solaire Resort and casino pool area; Tambo-Okada Manila, fountain area; and Fort Bonifacio- Bonifacio High Street Amphitheater, BGC.

Meanwhile, Makati, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa and Pateros have not released a designated firework display zones due to the strict implementation of their respective city ordinances.

Cruz ordered SPD chiefs of police and operating units to implement the total ban on the following firecrackers: super lolo, picolo, atomic triangle, large judas belt, large bawang, pullbox, bisa, goodbye Philippines, Bin Laden, mother rocket, lolo thunder, coke in can, atomic bomb, five star, pla-pla, giant whistle bomb, kabasi and watusi, and all firecrackers with gunpowder exceeding two grams or 1.3 teaspoons.

“With this early announcements, we hope that all of us will cooperate and will aim a zero incident caused by firecrackers and fireworks in welcoming the new year 2019,” the SPD chief said. (PNA)
