MANILA -- Filipino hotel chain Astoria Hotels and Resorts (AHR) has so far invested PHP1.5 billion for its ongoing project in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

AHR is developing Astoria Palawan, adding 30 new premier villas that have direct access to the beachfront of Sulu Sea.

With these additional villas, Astoria Palawan now has a total of 146 rooms.

Astoria Palawan is also set to open The Pavillion, its new food and beverage outlet by the first quarter this year.

AHR’s PHP1.5-billion investments also include the development of Palawan Waterpark by Astoria.

“This investment is proof of our belief in the continued growth of foreign tourists, our commitment to develop the countryside as part of our nation building efforts, and to make a positive impact on human capital by providing avenues for gainful employment to our fellow Filipinos,” AHR President Jeffrey Ng said.

Ng added that the company is taking advantage of the increasing number of visitors in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

He expressed optimism in the local tourism industry with the inclusion of the Puerto Princesa Underground River on the list of the New Seven Wonders of Nature in 2011.

In 2017, Palawan was also named as the “World’s Best Island” by New-York-based magazine Travel + Leisure.

“The new international airport at Puerto Princesa of course is another factor. With the increased capacity of the airport, it is but natural that we offer more luxury accommodations to our guests,” Ng said. (PNA)
