MANILA -- The Quezon City government is set to launch a new program to benefit pregnant and post-partum women in the city with Mayor Herbert Bautista’s recent approval of a new financial policy mechanism.

Authored by Councilors Marivic Co-Pilar, Raquel Malañgen, Franz Pumaren, Alexis Herrera and Alfredo Roxas, City Ordinance 2789-2018 aims to promote self-reliance and self-sufficiency by implementing the policy and encouraging such women to have voluntary savings.

Under the new measure, barangays are mandated to urge Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and Social Security System (SSS) members to continuously comply with monthly deposits up to the time the benefits and services for pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum care are availed.

The ordinance mandates the 142 barangays of Quezon City to provide assistance for the application of those who are not yet members.

To ensure compliance, the villages are obliged to submit documents regarding the implementation and monitoring of policy, as well as the review of its efficiency. (PNA)
