HÀNỘI -- Saigon Heat defeated defending champion San Miguel Alab Pilipinas, 81-80, in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) on Sunday in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Heat took the home court advantage, employing consistent offensive all throughout the game to upset the skidding Alab Pilipinas.

De Angelo Hamilton and Trevon Hughes combined for 15 points in the first quarter to post 22-17 lead while Hughes added 10 points in the next period as Saigon kept the upper hand, 42-38, going into the halftime break.

Behind Renaldo Balkman and Bobby Ray Parks Jr., the Alab Pilipinas rallied in the third quarter to inch closer at 60-61.

Alab Pilipinas, however, failed to sustain the momentum in the fourth and absorbed another loss going into the three-game quarterfinals series against Hong Kong starting on March 29.

Hughes finished with 24 points while Kyle Barone and Hamilton added 22 and 17 points for Saigon Heat.

Balkman and Parks led the scoring with 25 and 16 points for Alab Pilipinas. (VNS)
