DAVAO CITY -- Undefeated Jason “Smasher” Mama of General Santos City landed more telling blows to win the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Silk Road tournament and a victory over IBF Pan Pacific flyweight champion, Thailand’s Teeraphong Utaida, in Beijing, China on Thursday night.

All scores were in favor of Mama – 99-91, 98-92 and 98-92 – who showcased his superior ring generalship and sealed the fight. He remains undefeated with 12 straight wins and six knockouts while Utaida, IBF world ranked No. 5 flyweight, suffered his 7th loss with 38 wins and one draw.

With the win, Mama’s IBF ranking rises up and may possibly give him a shot at the world title.

The Filipino prospect qualified for the tournament finals by beating Chinese boxer Yinhuan Su in the semi-final stage in Macau, while Utaida won against Filipino Orlie Silvestre in Bangkok.

“I dedicate this win to my countrymen, my family and my Sanman Team. All glory be to God who gave me strength. I pray for bigger fights to come because of this victory," Mama said.

Sanman Chief, Jim Claude Manangquil, who was at the ringside, said the win paves the way for greater fights.

“We look forward to fighting IBF World title holder Moruti Mthalane. Jayson has a good chance against him. We will work out on bringing that fight on the table soon," Manangquil said.

The 21-year-old recently won the vacant WBO Oriental Youth flyweight title by a technical knockout in Round 9 over Michael Camelion in General Santos City. (PNA)
