MANILA -- The Philippine Beach Games will return to Lingayen for its third edition from May 24 to 26 this year.

Eleven sporting events, all beach versions of various sports being played indoors or on grass fields, will happen during the three-day event.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency on Wednesday, JP Demontano, founder and the general coordinator of the PBG, said the main highlight of the games is the beach volleyball tournament. He also enticed the participants to join the other sports during the press launch at the Skippy's Bar and Restaurant in Taguig City.

"That's what we encourage: dual sports," he said.

This year, the PBG will be a special one because it coincides with the Philippines' hosting of the Southeast Asian Games later this year.

Demontano is hopeful that players from PBG can be called up for national team duties.

"It's our dream talaga na (really that) people [will] come there to play and hopefully make it to the national team," he said.

Beach handball and beach volleyball will be played in the SEA Games, and the PBG tourneys for both sports could serve as an opportunity for players to be considered for the pool. (PNA)
