GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- Ten micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) will vie for the top awards in this year's National Productivity Olympics.

Sisinio Cano, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 12 director, said Tuesday they endorsed the 10 companies and business establishments to the national competition after topping the regional search.

Cano said the region's entries were mainly chosen for their "best productivity practices", innovative productivity improvement programs, and compliance with labor standards.

He said participating MSMEs will compete in three categories – agribusiness, service, and industry.

The Regina Hatchery Farm of Banga, South Cotabato will be the region's lone entry in the agribusiness category. Galaxus Montessori and Paraiso Verde Resort of Koronadal City and the Southern Philippines Power Corp. of Alabel, Sarangani will represent the service sector.

For the industry sector, the entries are the BKR Food Products and Arowana Agriventures, Inc. of Polomolok, South Cotabato; Centrala Alternative Medicine Producers Cooperative of Surallah, South Cotabato; RJH Food Products and Kayamanan ni Juan of this city; and, Dr. Alfred’s Essentials, Inc. of Kidapawan City.

Cano said the 10 MSMEs were earlier selected as regional winners from a number of nominees received by DOLE-12, through the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board 12.

He said they are confident on the chances of the participating MSMEs in the National Productivity Olympics.

"I hope we will produce a national champion this year,” he said in a statement.

Organized by the National Wages and Productivity Commission, the National Productivity Olympics mainly aims to intensify national awareness and commitment to quality and productivity, as well as showcase the best productivity improvement practices among MSMEs.

The winners will be announced in October as part of the National Quality and Productivity Month celebration. (PNA)
