MANILA -- About 10,000 runners are expected to participate in the Sesame Street Run Tour that will kick off at the SM by the Bay in Pasay City on August 17.
The event is a five-kilometer run to celebrate Sesame Street's 50th year.
"This is a once in a lifetime event, and it won't be staged again like on a yearly basis. The event really is to mark the Sesame Street's 50th year," Veronica Ramos, Aldenver marketing director, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Thursday.
She said the run tour will kick off in the Philippines because the country has the biggest social media followers of Sesame Street. It will later be held in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Hong Kong, she added.
What's unique about this run, Ramos said, is that there will be activities, games, for everyone. It would be like a carnival theme, she said.
Runners will also have the opportunity to have their photos with Sesame Street characters like Elmo, Cookie Monster, Ernie and Bert, Count, among others.
Heroes Pte Ltd. has partnered with Sesame Workshop to make the event possible. It has also partnered with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to ensure road safety during the event.

On Thursday, Heroes, MMDA and SM Mall of Asia representatives signed their partnership for the Sesame Street Run Tour.
The partnership will also enable the MMDA to increase public awareness about the agency's role in traffic education, proper waste management, environmental care and public safety.
Disseminating proper information on road safety concerns in a child-friendly way is also among the goal of the run.
Ramos said the run tour is open to all ages. Interested parties may register until June 30.
