LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) has recorded a 24.4-percent decline in index crime volume from January to June this year.

Acting PPPO Director, Col. Redrico Maranan, said the decline in crime volume indicates that the Pangasinan police is doing its job well, and he lauded them for that.

“The decrease (in) index crimes can be attributed to the aggressive anti-criminality drive, dubbed as Oplan Balik Disiplina sa Kalsada, and the strict implementation (of) the campaign against illegal drugs, loose firearms and wanted persons all over the province to include the stern enforcement of special laws and other law enforcement initiatives,” Maranan said in an interview Wednesday.

The index crime volume reached 849 from January to June, down from the 1,123 recorded in the same period last year.

These include crimes against persons, such as murder, homicide, physical injury and rape, as well as crimes against property, such as robbery, theft, car theft, and cattle rustling, he said.

Crime against persons from January to June 30 decreased to 511 from 645 in the same period last year, while crime against property declined to 338 from 478 over the same period.

“This is also attributed to the shared responsibility of the Philippine National Police and the active partnership and cooperation of the community to include other law enforcement agencies and local government units whom we serve and protect,” Maranan added.

In a separate interview, PPPO information officer Ria Tacderan said the police will continue to monitor the crime rates through its 24-hour checkpoints and strengthen its campaign against loose firearms. (PNA)
