Taconing seeks WBC world light flyweight title in Japan

DAVAO CITY – Jonathan “Lightning” Taconing of Zamboanga del Norte will try to snatch from undefeated Ken Shiro on Friday (July 12) the World Boxing Council world light flyweight title at the EDION Arena in Osaka, Japan.

The 32-year-old Taconing (28W-3L-1D, 22KO) won by a unanimous decision over Vince Paras of General Santos City to retain the WBC International light flyweight title last September 22, 2018 in Parañaque City.

On the other hand, Shiro, also known as “The Amazing Boy”, has 15 straight wins with 8 knockouts and has won the WBC World light flyweight title six times.

The most recent was against Saul Juarez of Mexico by unanimous decision last December 30, 2018.

Meanwhile, Rob “Bravo” Brant of the United States of America will defend his WBA World middleweight title against former champion Ryota Murata of Japan in the main event.

The 28-year-old Brant is making his second defense of the title he took from Murata in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Joe “Jaw Breaker” Noynay of Cebu will defend his new WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight title against Satoshi Shimizu of Japan.

The promoters are Bob Arum of Top Rank and Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions. (PNA)
