KIDAPAWAN CITY – A lawmaker representing North Cotabato is appealing for public support to a cleanup drive aimed at stopping the deadly dengue virus from infecting more individuals.

Representative Jose “Ping-Ping” Tejada of North Cotabato’s third district on Wednesday rallied the people to help clean public and private schools and destroy dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

“I urge the people of Tulunan, M’lang, Kabacan, Matalam, Carmen, and Banisilan to help fight dengue,” Tejada said in an interview over Radio DXND here.

Tejada said he was alarmed by the number of deaths and patients in various hospitals due to dengue.

North Cotabato is second among four provinces in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) with a high number of fatalities due to dengue.

The Department of Health -12 has earlier reported that North Cotabato has 14 deaths due to dengue, behind South Cotabato’s 15 fatalities based on their monitoring data from January to July 15 this year.

Alarmed by the situation in his district, Tejada said everyone should participate in the anti-dengue drive “because dengue-carrying mosquitoes can attack anyone, anytime and anywhere”.

He said there is no need to declare a state of calamity for the local government to act.

“Everyone must act and it should be now,” he said in the vernacular. (PNA)
