MANILA -- The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Monday voiced its concern over the death of lawyer Anthony Trinidad, who is among the victims of the spate of killings in Negros Oriental.

"Rather than be cowed or stifled by the spiraling violence in Negros and elsewhere in our country, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines stands with all peace-loving citizens in condemning the brutality so cruelly inflicted upon Atty. Trinidad and his wife," IBP national president Domingo Egon Cayosa said in a statement.

"They inspire us to persistently work for peace through justice. Violence, regardless of the motive or perpetrator, only adds to, rather than solves any problem," he added.

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra ordered on Friday the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the murder of Trinidad, who was shot and killed by motorcycle-riding gunmen in Sitio Looc, Poblacion in Guihulngan City.

Trinidad was on his way home to San Carlos City from a court hearing when he was shot, police said.

Trinidad was declared dead on arrival at the Guihulngan District Hospital.

His wife, Novie Marie, survived the attack and was rushed for treatment in a hospital, reports said. (PNA)
