SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is set to implement the third batch of the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) program benefiting 25,000 underemployed individuals in the province.

DOLE Antique provincial director Melisa Navarra said in an interview Thursday they are now in the process of preparing for the third implementation of the TUPAD in the province.

“We already had the pre-implementation meeting with the mayors and the barangay captains last July 24,” she said.

She added that on August 20-24 they will also have an orientation of the beneficiaries in preparation for the start of their 15-day work on August 27.

“The TUPAD beneficiaries will carry out the cleanup activities in all the 590 barangays of all 18 municipalities in the province,” she said.

Navarra added that the cleanup activities seek to get rid of the stagnant water and search and destroy of mosquito breeding places to address the occurrence of dengue.

“The barangay captains had been asked to list down a minimum of 25 beneficiaries in their barangays,” she said.

The mayors could also submit the names of their identified beneficiaries provided that they were not previously employed under the TUPAD within the same year. Only one member of the household shall serve as a beneficiary.

A TUPAD beneficiary will be receiving PHP365 per day as an honorarium.

The first batch of TUPAD beneficiaries was hired last March 25 until the end of April excluding the Holy Week and Easter Sunday benefiting 16,000 workers.

The workers, who were identified by the local government units, did coastal and drainage cleanup.

The second batch of TUPAD beneficiaries was composed of around 1,900 out-of-school-youth (OSY) and parents of poor schoolchildren were hired last July 22 to August 7.

They assisted the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Antique in the cleanup and maintenance of school premises in support of the Brigada Eskwela Plus Program. (PNA)
