DAVAO CITY -- After 17 years of holding a weekend bird show, the Malagos Garden Resort here is cooking up a new interactive bird presentation to be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.

Jaydee Duano, resident manager of the Malagos Garden Resort, said Monday that the focus of the new show is to educate the audience in appreciating nature and protecting the environment.

"We want the audience to also take care of the environment and see the value of birds in our communities," he said.

Duano said the resort has 20 different bird species that have become popular for those who go on educational tours inside the nature park.

The 45-minute weekend bird show, he said, is attracting an average of 200 viewers.

Aside from the show, he said they also handle the rehabilitation of birds that are malnourished and sickly.

"Once they are ready and can survive the environment we release them to the wild," he said.

Duano, who has been handling the show since last year, said they will do a tribute to the original host and founder of the Malagos Bird Show, Dr. Bo Puentespina, during the latter's farewell act on Sunday before the show transitions into a new one.

Aside from the bird show as attraction and the animal encounter show, Malagos Garden Resort is known for its Chocolate Museum, orchid farm, and chocolate spa.

The 12-hectare resort also has a bird feeding dome, butterfly sanctuary and museum, avant-garde themed playground, a skate park, and moonlight theater. (PNA)
