COTABATO CITY – The city government has collected some PHP400,000 from traffic violators under the “absolute no parking policy” at major thoroughfares here since its implementation last month.

Data provided by the City Public Safety Office (CPSO) also indicated that 675 traffic violators have been penalized for disobeying the traffic code.

The city government launched the “absolute no parking policy” along Sinsuat and Quezon avenues here on August 5, in a bid to address the growing traffic congestion in major thoroughfares.

The city caters daily to some 7,000 vehicles on its streets, including tricycles, pedicab, and “habal-habal” (motorcycle-for-rent) services.

“Among the violations by the vehicle drivers were illegal parking, expired driver’s license and registration, illegal loading, and unloading of passengers by public utility vehicles,” Rolen Balquin, CPSO chief, said.

Only on Wednesday, the CPSO conducted its day-long seminar for the sixth batch of traffic code violators.

“Their traffic violations ranged from penalties ranging from PHP500 to PHP1,500 depending on the gravity of their offense,” Balquin said.

He said more than 100 driver’s licenses of violators were not yet redeemed at the CPSO to date. (PNA)
