COTABATO CITY -- Police are tracking down a “person of interest” in the ambush-slay of two persons, including a businessman, along Barangay Rosary Heights 6 here on Wednesday evening.

Capt. Rustom Pastolero, the city police station 2 commander, identified the victims as Allan Bagundali Benito, a recruitment agency owner and a resident of Barangay Rosary Heights 9, this city; and his 21-year-old companion, Datu Prince Balao.

Investigation revealed that Benito was driving his commuter van, with Balao as passenger, near the junction of Rosary Heights 6 and Poblacion 9 when fired upon by a lone gunman around 7:40 p.m.

The gunman fled to an unknown direction as concerned villagers and responding cops rushed the victims to the hospital.

“Benito died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds while Balao died at the hospital several hours later,” Pastolero said.

Recovered from the site of the ambush were eight empty slugs from a caliber .45 pistol. Relatives said that a person has scheduled a meet up with Benito before the incident.

“We immediately went to the house of the suspect but he was not around,” Pastolero said.

He declined further comment citing the ongoing police operation. (PNA)
