CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Ninety-one towns and cities in Northern Mindanao region were conferred the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance for 2018 by the regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Friday.

In cooperation with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the award was based on the performance of local government units (LGUs) following a set of standards that require them to become communities that are safe for children, said
DSWD-Region 10 Director Mari-Flor A. Dollaga-Libang.

Libang, who led the awarding here, said that among the 91 nominees, four awardees at the regional level made it to the top: Gingoog City, Salay town in the province of Misamis Oriental, Kapatagan town in the province of Lanao Del Norte, and Iligan City.

Meanwhile, Villanueva town in Misamis Oriental, Tangub City and Sapang Dalaga in Misamis Occidental, as well as Cagayan de Oro City also received the "Presidential Award for Child-Friendly Municipalities and Cities".

The award made the LGUs eligible to compete at the national level later this month, Libang said. (PNA)
